Accounts of taxes due from the sheriff for carriages, 1775-1778.

During the colonial period taxes were levied on four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles. In July 1775 the Third Revolutionary Convention passed an ordinance taxing all wheeled vehicles except wagons. This series consists of sheriff's vehicle tax accounts; some list only the number of vehicles taxed while others give the names of owners, the number of vehicles owned, and the tax on the vehicles.
